Plug In and Start AC Charging
1. Inspect the Adapter
Before charging, confirm that the adapter, pins and charging connector are clean, dry and free from visible damage.
2. Insert the J1772 Connector
Push the J1772 charging handle fully into the adapter until the mechanical latch is properly engaged.
3. Connect to the Tesla
Open the vehicle charge port and insert the Tesla / NACS end of the adapter completely into the charging inlet.
4. Confirm Charging Has Started
Verify the charging status on the Tesla center screen or Tesla app before leaving the vehicle.
5. Observe Vehicle Charge Limits
Actual charging current is determined by the J1772 station, vehicle onboard charger and adapter. A 60A adapter rating does not force the vehicle to charge at 60A.
6. Disconnect After Charging
End the charging session, unlock the vehicle charge port if required, remove the adapter and J1772 handle, then reinstall the dust cap before storage.
60A Is the Adapter Rating — Not a Guaranteed Charge Rate
Charging power is limited by the lowest-rated component in the complete charging path, including the charging station, the Tesla's onboard AC charger and the adapter itself.
